WCC Instructors Honored by National Organization

Wayne Community College President Thomas Walker presents a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award to Art Instructor Angie Waller.

Two Wayne Community College instructors were recently honored by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development.

Art Instructor Angie Waller and Business and Accounting Department Chair Erin LeGrand were presented Excellence Awards from the organization at a meeting of the college’s board of trustees. They were to have received them in May during NISOD’s annual conference but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Excellence Awards recognize the work of faculty, administrators, and staff for extraordinary service to their students, colleagues, and community. Individual colleges set their own criteria for who earns the award; for WCC, it is selection as a George E. Wilson Excellence in Teaching Award recipient. Waller won the Wilson Award in 2018 and LeGrand in 2019.

The recipients received a medallion that will become part of their formal attire for commencement and other academic ceremonies, a certificate, and inclusion in an awards booklet. Recipients’ photos and statements about their inspiration, strategies, and advice are included on the NISOD website and featured on its social media channels.
