Monday around noon, Wilson’s Mills Fire and Police along with state troopers responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 70 near Sadisco Road.
The driver of a pickup drifted off the road and become entangled in the center cables. The cables prevented the vehicle from traveling into the oncoming lanes.
Workers from a nearby business raced to the scene and removed three young children and the driver from the heavily damaged truck. A small fire was burning under the truck at the time.
The truck damaged over 300 feet of the life-saving median cables.
The driver was transported to Wake Med for a medical condition which may have contributed to the mishap. The children were uninjured and were picked up by their mother.
The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
