Woman Caught Trying To Sell Land She Didn’t Own

SMITHFIELD – Criminal charges have been filed against a Smithfield woman who allegedly tried to sell land she didn’t own.

Sheree Lynn Sikovsek, age 48, of Braswell Road, was arrested July 8 and charged with felonious forgery of deeds or wills and two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

According to arrest warrants and information obtained from law enforcement officers, Sikovsek reportedly forged the name of her estranged husband, who lives in Ohio, on a deed for land he owns in Johnston County. The land has a reported value of $123,000.

After fraudulently obtaining the deed to the property, Sikovsek attempted to sell it to a Princeton woman, who paid $500 towards the purchase.

Before Sikovsek was able to sell the land she falsely obtained, the forged deed was discovered.

The case was reported on June 21 to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Following a criminal investigation, Sikovsek was arrested July 8 on three felony warrants. She was given a $50,000 secured bond.

Sheree Sikovsek is awaiting trial on unrelated charges stemming from an April 2025 drug arrest.
