A woods fire burned about three acres Thursday afternoon before being brought under control.
The fire was reported around 3:40 PM on Barnes Ridge Drive near Clayton.
Gusty winds and low humidity helped the fire quickly spread. Several homes were threatened by the fire but were not damaged thanks to fire crews from Clayton, Cleveland and Wilson’s Mills working to contain the fire.
The NC Forestry Service used a bulldozer and plow to help contain the fire. The cause of the fire started remains under investigation. Photos by John Payne
