ALE Charges Two Adults With Supplying Alcohol, Marijuana To Teens In Deadly High-Speed Crash

KENLY, N.C. — Two Pikeville women have been arrested following a months-long investigation into how teenagers involved in a fatal high-speed crash near Kenly obtained alcohol and marijuana, state authorities announced.

The investigation stems from a Nov. 16, 2025 pursuit that ended in a deadly crash on Pinkney Road, outside of Kenly, in the edge of Wayne County. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a trooper first spotted a blue Ford Mustang traveling more than 120 mph on U.S. 70 in Wayne County shortly before 11:30 p.m.

When the trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit that crossed between Wayne and Johnston counties before ending when the Mustang lost control and struck a tree.

Two back-seat passengers — ages 16 and 18 — were ejected and died at the scene.

The 17-year-old driver and a 16-year-old front-seat passenger, both wearing seat belts, were taken to UNC Wayne Hospital in Goldsboro with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers reported finding alcohol, marijuana and two firearms inside the wrecked vehicle. Authorities said at the time the driver was believed to be impaired.

Following the crash, the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division opened a source investigation to determine how the underage occupants obtained alcohol and drugs.

According to ALE, special agents conducted interviews, executed search warrants and used cellphone data analysis assistance from the FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team during the investigation.

On Wednesday, March 11, agents arrested two Pikeville residents in connection with the case.

Tammy Jones, 48, and Amber Dennis, 41, were each charged with two counts of felony sell or deliver marijuana, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, felony conspiracy, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and aiding and abetting a person under 21 in obtaining alcoholic beverages.

Dennis was also charged with giving a malt beverage to an underage person.

Authorities said the 17-year-old who was driving the Mustang has also been charged by the State Highway Patrol with two counts of felony second-degree murder and several additional offenses.

“Our source investigations are designed to determine where underage individuals obtained alcohol or drugs when a serious incident occurs,” ALE Director Bryan House said in a statement. “Adults who illegally provide these substances to minors will be identified and held accountable for the dangerous and often tragic consequences that can follow.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
