  1. “… The N.C. Turnpike Authority and NC Quick Pass want to ensure all customers have the opportunity to pay the lowest toll rate: …”

What a remarkable bit of propaganda!

  2. My tax dollars paid for 540 in the northern part of the county even though I live in the southern part of the county and don’t use it. Now that 540 toll road in the southern part of the county is open I have to pay to use it, while the northern portion is toll free. All of 540 should be a toll road or non of 540 should be a toll road.

    • @Think: I-540 was built with tax funds, NC-540 was not. You’re free to use (or avoid) the toll road, as you please. It’s your choice. ALL roads should be tolled. If you use it, pay for it.

You sound like some sort of Snowflake SOCIALST that wants the government to provide everything for free.

      • As usual TTT you missed the point. All roads should be free, we all pay for them with gas tax, vehicle taxes and other taxes. Why should one portion of the state get a free ride while others have to pay twice.

        • @Think: No, you Snowflakes who think everything should be free miss the point! The government should not be involved AT ALL. Why should you pay taxes for new schools if you don’t have children? Why should you pay taxes for new fire trucks if you’ve never had a fire? Why should you pay taxes for libraries in other cities? LIBS WANT EVERYTHING FOR FREE. We should privatize it all, and use a pay-as-you-go model.

          • Privatize interstate highway building? Are you kidding? Have you thought about that? How ’bout we privatize the Navy and Air Force while we’re at it. I’m sure ordinary business people can run nuclear subs and fly stealth fighters, no problem. Don’t pay taxes for fire trucks if you’ve never had a fire? … well if YOU have a fire, I’m sure you’d be at the curb waving the fire trucks off yelling “I didn’t pay taxes for you, so just turn around and go away.” You’d do that I’m sure. Taxes for schools if you don’t have kids? SURE. I’m happy to do that… because education is one of the most important investments we can do. We don’t want millions of people running around dumb as dirt thinking the Earth is flat, do we now? Or do you? The anti-science / anti-education-spending conservatives are perfectly happy with a dumb populace. Easy to fool , lie to, and control.

      • Again, here we have TTT being the D- bag we have all grown to know. While I know you feel superior on that keyboard, I would bet my big toe that in person you’re the equivalent to a mouse.

        • @Starsky: A mouse? Because I speak the truth? You Snowflakes are complaining about a PRIVATELY FUNDED road. The only section of NC540 built with tax funds (and then, only FEDERAL tax dollars) was the original 3 miles from 40 to NC55 by Morrisville. To re-coup those FEDERAL dollars, you were given 5 years of free driving.

I don’t hear yall complaining about YOUR tax dollars going to pay for interstates in other states. You love SOCIALISM when it works for you!

Toll roads are FREEDOM — Only the people who choose to ise them have to pay. #hypocrites #sheep

    • The reason why 540 does not have a toll and the Southern extension does is because 540 is interstate with federal dollars and the southern extension is a state road that was agreed to by all the town councils adjacent to the Southern extension Expressway. It’s apples and oranges. This information comes from the Turnpike Authority because I inquired using the same argument and they explained the difference. If you want to blame, anybody blame the city council of each of the townships that agreed to this project.

  3. Well that just made sure I won’t be using it anymore, I thought it was high before………

  4. Who owns The N.C. Turnpike Authority?
Of tax payers pay for the cost up front and How it transferred to the turnpike authority? So how does turnpike authority make money?
