A Smithfield teen set a number of records over her sports career at Wayne Country Day School in Goldsboro. Ashton Gupton was the first high school athlete in Wayne County to win a State Championship in two different sports – Cross Country and Golf. She was also the first athlete in Wayne County and Wayne Country Day School history to make All State in three different sports – Cross Country, Golf, and Soccer.
Ashton is a 2021 graduate of Wayne Country Day School. She will attend Wake Forest University this fall and pursue a double major in Health and Exercise Science and Spanish.
Ashton’s high school honors include:
- 2021 Samuel C. Patrick, Jr. Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to the athletic program at Wayne Country Day School
- Girls Soccer: All State Team, All Conference Team, All Tournament Team, Voted Team Most Outstanding Player, Brittany Showcase Sportsmanship Award, Team Captain
- Girls Cross Country: All State Team, State Champion, State Runner-up
- Girls Golf: All State, State Championship, Team Captain
In her spare time she enjoys working with Special Olympics, the Junior Civitan Club, and canning vegetables during the summer with her grandmother.
Ashton is the daughter of Tony and Melony Gupton of Smithfield.
