Smithfield Names New Public Works Director

After a lengthy search for a new Public Works Director, the Town of Smithfield has hired Lawrence Davis for the position. Davis has been with the Public Works Department since 2007. He replaces former director Lenny Branch who retired earlier this year.

“Lawrence has been a great employee for the Town of Smithfield. He has worked his way up through line positions, to crew leader to Public Works Superintendent to now the Public Works Director. Lawrence has been acting in the role of the Public Works Director for the last five months and has done an outstanding job through the budget process and transitioning the department to accept new leadership,” Town Manager Mike Scott said.

“Lawrence participated fully in the hiring process which included candidates from as far away as Michigan. Smithfield is fortunate to have such a dedicated leader step into the shoes of Public Works Director and create consistency of service in this position for many years to come,” Mr. Scott said.

Davis had been the acting public works director since January when Mr. Branch retired.

Mr. Davis is a graduate of Smithfield Selma High and attended St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh. His annual salary will be $70,013. Mr. Branch had made $80,475 annually.
