Bill Requiring Age Verification Of Individuals In Pornographic Images Filed In NC House

RALEIGH – On Monday, HB 805, a bill aimed at ending exploitations in the pornography industry, was filed in the NC House. The “Prevent Sexual Exploitation of Women and Minors Act” requires that pornography websites verify that people on their websites are at least 18 years old and have consented, in writing, to be there. The bill makes a way for those who have been exploited by pornography websites to have content removed and provides significant financial penalties for violations.

It is a critical time to protect children from exploitation by the pornography industry because online child sexual abuse material is on the rise. In the US, reports have grown exponentially in recent years, from 3,000 reports in 1998 to more than 1 million in 2014 and 18.4 million in 2018. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children recorded more than 29.3 million reports of suspected child sexual abuse material in 2021, the highest number of reports ever received in a single year and a 35 percent increase from 2020.

Tami Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the North Carolina Values Coalition, praised the bill for its protection of vulnerable individuals, saying, “We are proud to support the introduction of this important bill, which is a critical step in safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation by the pornography industry. It’s time to permanently put a stop to sexual exploitation of children in North Carolina.”

The bill is sponsored by Representatives Neal Jackson, Laura Budd, Sarah Stevens, and Jennifer Balkcom.

    • The Bibles not free speech either, can we ban it?
Oh that’s right! Only idol worshipping, hypocritical, Christian want-a-be’s have the right to free speech lies

      • The Bible isn’t using anyone else’s likeness to slander and defame people’s character, Hypocrisy. Perhaps your lovely nude face on someone else’s body doing something disgusting would change your mind….

      • The Bible is a book, porn isn’t.

With any right comes a corresponding duty. Liberty is for a moral people. Take your immorality to another State, or repent of it.

  1. “The bill makes a way for those who have been exploited by pornography websites to have content removed”

Once on the web always on the web.

Seems like another law with NO teeth just to pander for votes, but that’s the State General Assembly for ya.

  2. With the advent of AI unauthorized pornography is becoming a huge problem. I, personally, was not aware that people were doing this sort of thing with technology. It is damaging to the victim to discover their likeness has been used in such a manner. It is even more damaging when people in your community
become aware of these images and claim the victim is really a closet porn star… I urge you all to contact your representatives before it’s your kinfolk splashed across the screen

  3. The profoundly scary thing about AI pornography is the damage it does to the victim unaware that a vile person has used their likeness. Imagine your ex boss, detested teacher, unpopular mayor or congressman splashed across the pages of a porn website doing just about anything… It is damaging to society if we do not ban the use of superimposed, AI or other adultered images being used to create unauthorized pornography. Now imagine your child for the rest of his or her life dealing with tracking down online images.
