Smithfield Police are investigating a bomb threat at Neuse Charter School on Booker Dairy Road.
Emergency crews responded to the school at 10:31am Monday after a note was found at an undisclosed location. Unconfirmed reports indicate the note had been left in a bathroom.
Police, fire and school officials conducted a search of the Neuse Charter buildings and mobile units. After the search the students and staff were allowed to return to their classrooms.
Police Captain R. Sheppard said no explosive device was found. Police are treating the incident as a criminal act.
