Clayton Man Among 35 Charged In Raleigh Drug, Alcohol Investigation
RALEIGH – A Clayton man is among 35 people charged following a large undercover investigation targeting illegal drug and alcohol activity around Moore Square and the GoRaleigh Station in downtown Raleigh.
The N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement Division and Raleigh Police Department said the investigation resulted in more than 130 felony charges.
Demetrius Tyshaun Bonaparte, 29, of Clayton, was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a counterfeit controlled substance, felony sale of a counterfeit controlled substance, felony delivery of a counterfeit controlled substance, two counts of possession of alcohol for sale without permits, and unauthorized possession of alcohol.
The investigation began in June after Raleigh Police requested assistance from ALE following complaints about criminal activity and quality-of-life concerns around Moore Square. ALE had also received complaints from nearby ABC-permitted businesses about suspected illegal alcohol and drug activity.
Authorities said undercover agents purchased illegal drugs and alcohol on numerous occasions, sometimes repeatedly from the same individuals. Several juveniles were also allegedly involved.
In one instance, investigators said a juvenile sold crack cocaine to an undercover agent inside a public park restroom while EMS personnel were responding to an overdose call nearby.
Investigators identified more than 30 people allegedly involved in trafficking or selling controlled substances. Crack cocaine and fentanyl were among the drugs seized during the operation.
The investigation also led to a residence in Zebulon that authorities allege was being used as part of a crack cocaine manufacturing and supply operation. ALE agents executing a search warrant there reported finding crack cocaine, a firearm and manufacturing equipment.
Eight people were indicted with assistance from the Wake County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities said 23 of the 35 individuals charged are convicted felons, including six habitual felons and one violent habitual felon. Two are registered sex offenders.
The suspects include Javis Eugene Stancil III, 36, of Raleigh; Eric Sebastian Perry, 48, of Raleigh; D’onte Tarez Johnson, 18, of Raleigh; Lee Covington, 57, of Raleigh; Archie Allen Felton, 52, of Raleigh; Tyre Monte Warren, 32, of Raleigh; Michael Edward Petty, 46, of Raleigh; Charles Antonio Robinson, 51, of Burlington; Michael Brandon Williams, 38, of Cary; Michael Angelo Jones, 65, of Raleigh; Shanna Denise Moore, 48, of Lawndale; Jada Denise Applewhite, 19, of Zebulon; Gerard Eric Jennett, 30, of Raleigh; Tony Milbourne, 63, of Raleigh; Devin Mashe Stoval, 30, of Raleigh; Amari Sherod Smith, 26, of Raleigh; Colonel Mack Woods, 38, of Raleigh; Demetrius Tyshaun Bonaparte, 29, of Clayton; Robert Earl Hinton, 71, of Raleigh; Anthony Jerome McCray, 46, of Garner; Marcell Olin Bullock, 56, of Raleigh; Crystal Lynn Maguire, 52, of Raleigh; Regina Denise Applewhite, 42, of Zebulon; Kerry Jones, 54, of Raleigh; Wardell Alson Pettihome, 39, of Raleigh; Theodore McNeill, 56, of Knightdale; Mason Ervin Peebles, 26, of Raleigh; Daejon Lamon Wilson, 25, of Raleigh; Reginald Wayne Lee, 66, of Raleigh; Timothy Gregory Davis, 32, of Raleigh; Milton Earl Jones, 69, of Raleigh; and Danele Earl Smith, 42, of Garner.
Authorities also obtained juvenile petitions for youths allegedly involved in the investigation. Their names were not released.
Many of the defendants are already in custody, and ALE said additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
