It took a ladder truck and five fire departments more than an hour to contain a stubborn fire this afternoon (Wednesday) in Clayton. The fire was reported at a home in the 6300 block of Little Creek Church Road.
Firefighters had a difficult time extinguishing the blaze. Tax records show the 5,856 square foot home was built in 1910. Authorities said the house appeared to be vacant.
The Clayton, Archer Lodge, Wilson’s Mills, Thanksgiving and Cleveland Fire Departments responded. The Cleveland Fire Department responded with a ladder truck.
Little Creek Church Road is expected to be closed for several more hours due to the number of fire trucks at the scene.
Clayton Police are detouring traffic around the area. Police have shut down Little Creek Church Road between Boling Street at Wren Lane and Sunnyview Lane.
Clayton Police and the Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause.
