The Magnolia Inn Gains Recognition For Community Role In Clayton

CLAYTON — A boutique inn that opened earlier this year has been recognized by the Clayton Chamber of Commerce for its early growth and involvement in community initiatives.

The Magnolia Inn was named the Chamber’s 2025 New Business of the Year in December, an award that highlights businesses that demonstrate economic impact and civic engagement during their first year of operation.

Since opening in early 2025, the inn has established itself as a lodging and event venue in downtown Clayton, hosting overnight guests, weddings and community gatherings. The property has also received several local awards during its inaugural year, including Best Hotel/Motel of Johnston County, Best Decorated Storefront and a People’s Choice Award for holiday spirit.

Guests have consistently rated the inn highly online, often pointing to its design and hospitality. One recent guest wrote, “Every moment at The Magnolia Inn feels curated with heart. It is spotless, spacious, and full of thoughtful, intricate design details.”

The inn has hosted a variety of visitors throughout the year, including performers connected to the Clayton Center for the Arts, regional dignitaries and senior military leaders, including the Vice Chief of Naval Operations.

In addition to its hospitality operations, the inn has partnered with local and regional organizations on community-focused efforts. Through a partnership with A Mother’s Rest, the property provides quarterly respite weekends for caregivers. The inn has also hosted free Santa photo events for local families and created cultural programming, including Whispers Through the Walls, an annual immersive theatrical experience.

Owner Jordan Robinson, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, is active in local business and veterans’ organizations. Robinson serves as chair of the Veterans Outreach Council at the Clayton Chamber of Commerce and is a participant in the Launch JoCo entrepreneurship program. Robinson was also selected this year as the Veterans Graduation Commencement Speaker at Syracuse University.

“We created The Magnolia Inn to be a sanctuary for guests and a gathering place for the community,” Robinson said. “This award reflects not just our work, but the support of the wonderful people of Clayton.”

Looking ahead, the inn plans to expand its public offerings beginning in January 2026, including afternoon teas, wine tastings led by sommeliers and additional community events.

  1. That “Inn” has been open for years. It was originally the morning glory inn run by the people that owned the Clayton Steak house. Then it was sold and called “McWades inn” and others. That being said, it is a wonderful house and a great place for events and I hope they will be very successful.

  2. Congratulations Jordan and Tom,
The inn looks fantastic. It is amazing to see all the transformations, activities and awards you have added to the inn. I wish you the best and continued success.
    Happy New Year !
    Carl
