Johnston County Register of Deeds Craig Olive said Thursday the demand for passports his office processes has increased 24 percent since last year.
The Johnston County Register of Deeds Office recently received an annual certification score of 100 from the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Passport Services. “Our passport acceptance agent employees do an outstanding job for the citizens of Johnston County and surrounding areas.”
The U.S. Department of State has strict guidelines and rules for acceptance agent facilities to follow. As an acceptance agent facility, Register of Deeds passport agents are required to pass mandatory certification each year. Our division is also audited by a federal inspector annually.
Since implementation of the Johnston County Register of Deeds Passport Division, 4700 passports have been processed and 2614 photos have been taken.
“We are a one-stop shop for obtaining a passport. In addition to processing the paperwork, we also take the required picture for the passport. This makes it more convenient for the customer by eliminating an additional step they would have to do with other agencies,” Olive said.
Since May 15, 2015, the passport division has added $166,075 to the county’s general fund. “Not only are we providing this service to the public, we are also adding another income source for the county,” Olive added.
“The Charleston Passport Center and Passport Services are extremely proud of Johnston County’s excellent work and grateful for its service not only to the Department of State but to the community,” said Tim Wiesnet, director of the Charleston Passport Center.
