Deputies Assaulted While Arresting Burglary Suspect
KENLY — A Smithfield man who deputies say kicked officers during his arrest is facing multiple charges, including assault on law enforcement.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Nov. 8 when deputies responded to a report of a break-in at a residence on Highway 222, just east of Kenly.
Deputies said they found Adam Corey Hill, 35, of Bakers Chapel Road in Smithfield, inside the home of an acquaintance. Investigators said Hill did not have permission to be there.
Hill, who had recently been released from jail on unrelated charges, allegedly became combative as deputies attempted to take him into custody. Sheriff’s officials said Hill tried to pull away and kicked deputies as they attempted to place him in handcuffs.
Due to his alleged aggressive behavior, officers placed Hill in leg restraints before transporting him to the Johnston County Detention Center. No serious injuries were reported among deputies.
Hill is charged with felony breaking and entering, three misdemeanor counts of resisting a public officer, and two misdemeanor counts of assault on a government official.
He was booked into the Johnston County Detention Center under a $35,000 secured bond.
A mugshot of Adam Hill was not available.
