Downtown Smithfield Unveils New Brand As Part Of Ongoing Revitalization Efforts

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Downtown Smithfield is stepping into a new chapter with the launch of a refreshed brand identity and a brand-new website designed to better showcase the district and support continued growth. As part of the five-year transformation plan led by the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation (DSDC), the organization has modernized the Downtown Smithfield brand to reflect the energy, charm, and opportunity found in the heart of the community.

A key part of DSDC’s mission is to attract both local residents and visitors from across the region to experience downtown. With that goal in mind, the new brand and website introduce a fresh look and feel that highlights the district’s unique character while improving how downtown is marketed to potential visitors, entrepreneurs, and investors. The new logo features flowing wave lines representing the river that marks downtown’s western border, paired with clean, fresh, modern colors that signal a forward-looking vision.

“Part of our mission is to attract visitors from near and far to Downtown Smithfield,” said Heidi Gilmond, Executive Director of DSDC. “With a fresh new look and brand, we’re not only reaching new visitors but also encouraging investment and redevelopment, creating an exciting new chapter for our downtown.”

With upcoming changes such as the removal of parking on Market Street and continued streetscape enhancements, the timing is ideal for a fresh start and renewed vision for downtown.

  1. With a Turnpike running through the very center of town, tell us how this works out.
It divides Main Street, makes it dangerous to even walk on sidewalks. All retail is basically leaving.
    Yeah…
    Simply wasting money.
    Sad

  2. Please stop what y’all are doing it has to get better cause it can’t get any worse it is seriously killing small businesses! Million dollar Amphitheater half Million dollar bathrooms with no events. Movie theater was there how many years? How many business have closed? Homeless and their trash and they sit in the library all day on phones doesn’t make sense. Don’t look under RxR tunnel bridge walkway It’s terrible. Baseball field stop until you get the final plan. I”m going to stop, Good Luck people in charge.

  3. The DSDC and town leaders need to prioritize supporting our current retailers over cosmetic updates. A new logo doesn’t bring foot traffic—thriving storefronts and adequate parking do. Small towns are only a destination when there’s a reason to stay; without a diverse mix of shops and restaurants, we’re losing the very ‘community vibe’ that makes this town worth visiting. Let’s invest in keeping the lights on for the businesses we already have before they’re gone for good.

  4. Lemme get this right…. we build a new jail and public safety center 2 miles away from downtown. Then we get rid of the street parking. Then we want to build a baseball field 3 miles from downtown. I’m not sure how this will “attract visitors.”

  5. Without parking–especially handicapped parking (there is next to none now), I fear that Downtown Smithfield will continue to decline.

  6. How can you attract foot traffic with no parking at the businesses that need foot traffic to survive. Y’all killing downtown businesses and it’s a shame

  7. Having the trash picked up around Starbucks, Chipotle and just everywhere in general would be a great start.

  8. This is why Selma is eating your lunch. They have parking, diverse restaurants and businesses, and their Main Street isn’t a highway. Smithfield needs to just quit.
