Deputies Charge Smithfield Man In Armed Robbery
SELMA, N.C. — A Smithfield man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a Kenly man who investigators say was lured from a motel to a home outside Selma, where he was pistol-whipped and robbed of a large amount of cash.
Dexter Antwoine Sanders, 35, of the 7800 block of Brogden Road, Smithfield, was arrested July 18 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
Sanders has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon into occupied property, discharging a firearm to incite fear, felony conspiracy, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the sheriff’s office, the robbery occurred on July 6 at a residence on Old Beulah Road outside Selma.
Investigators said the 42-year-old victim was staying at a motel in Kenly when he met an unknown woman who claimed she could help him relocate to a nicer motel.
The victim agreed to ride with the woman. Instead of taking him to another motel, she allegedly drove him to the Old Beulah Road residence, where Sanders was waiting.
According to the incident report, Sanders allegedly produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The victim initially believed Sanders was joking until he was struck in the head with the firearm.
Investigators said Sanders then fired a round inside the residence before stealing a large, undisclosed amount of cash from the victim.
The victim suffered minor injuries during the robbery. He later told investigators the stolen cash had been money he had been saving for his children.
The incident was reported to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on July 14, eight days after it allegedly occurred.
The investigation remains ongoing.

I’m not saying that the victim was not robbed or pistol-whipped!!! However, the rest of that story sounds fabricated. If you have a large amount of cash, then you do not need help getting a nicer motel, because you can already afford it. Also, did you have the women simply drive you back to the original motel in Kenly after she clearly set you up to get robbed? Lastly, why wait eight days to report it after getting robbed? If I am living in a motel and someone steals a large amount of cash and beats me with a pistol, then I am calling 911 immediately. Especially considering the fact that I am miles away from my motel room with an unknown women/stranger that I just met, who allegedly transported me directly to the armed robber at a private residence instead of a nicer motel. Coincidences do occur, but not at a private residence on Brodgen Road where a armed man is waiting to rob someone who happens to be carrying a large amount of cash.
You are assuming everyone has the same thought process as you. This may well be someone who is on the spectrum or has mental health issues and therefore has taken a while for family or friends to get to the truth. I am not saying that this is the case but know that not everyone has the capability to recognise $cuM
Ppl like this kill me how are you going say that this aint happenned how do you know that the victim isnt autistic or have mental issues. He must have done it bc he was arrested and charged which takes evidence so you definitely dont know what your talking about . You wasnt there so shut up and mind your business
