Deputies: Man Kicked In Door, Took Basket Of Tortillas

JOHNSTON COUNTY — A Dunn man is accused of kicking in the back door of a stranger’s home Thursday afternoon and leaving with a small basket of tortillas.

The unusual burglary was reported around 4:31 p.m. Oct. 8 at a home off Melba Lane in southern Johnston County.

A 40-year-old woman and a child were inside the residence when the break-in occurred. Neither was injured.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Chevy Drake Edgerton, 24, allegedly kicked open the back door, took the tortillas and fled.

Deputies responding to the 911 call located Edgerton near the scene and took him into custody without further incident.

Authorities said the victim and Edgerton did not know one another and the break-in appeared to be random.

Edgerton was charged with first-degree burglary, larceny and injury to personal property.

He was held without bond in the Johnston County Detention Center.
