Digital Sign In Front Of Smithfield Town Hall Will Be Replaced

SMITHFIELD – Six years after purchasing a new digital sign in front of the Smithfield Town Hall, officials have voted to replace the sign.

The original double-sided sign stopped working last year. The company that installed the sign is based out of Florida and due to the sign no longer being under warranty, will not evaluate the problem without the Town paying for travel and repairs.

Local sign companies and electricians have been unable to pinpoint the problem.

Mayor Andy Moore called it a “maintenance nightmare.”

At the request of town staff, the council voted to spend $40,210 to replace the sign. The council selected a local company, SAS Sign & Awning Systems. The new digital sign should be installed and operational in 10 to 12 weeks.

  1. $40,000.00 I do believe the town could do much better than wasting their monies on a sign, especially one that cost that much.

  2. Why did the town originally purchase the sign from a company on Florida (instead of locally)? This is the real travesty! Smithfield residents should be asking, who profited from this!!! #FollowTheMoney #VoteOutIncumbents

  3. What about that crappy live cam downtown where u can hardly see crap at night huh

  4. What y’all can’t replace the outdated camera downtown that u can’t hardly see at night but y’all can waste money on unnecessary crap

  5. They will likely buy another substandard sign and have to fork out another $50,000 to replace sooner than later. I’ve never seen the sign with anything on it of importance. Maybe post the latest excuse on what has happened to Amazon.
