Town of Benson Photo

BENSON – The intersection at Main Street (NC 50) and Wall Street (US 301) in Downtown Benson is now closed for the construction of a roundabout.

The work on the roundabout is expected to take 60 days. Detour signage has been installed around the work zone and along US 301 and NC 50. Local traffic will be directed onto Parrish and Church Streets until the work is completed. Commercial truck traffic will be directed onto NC 27, NC 50, NC 242, I-40 and I-95.

Some portion of downtown parking will be affected just outside of Benton Square and NAPA, however the remainder of downtown parking will still be usable during the intersection closure. All Main Street businesses will remain accessible using Parrish and Church Streets.

  1. I feel sorry for the truck drivers through this crazy mess! I am also not looking forward in a traffic accident on I40 and or I95 where traffic tries to redirect through Benson. Oh and just wait until Mule Days!

  2. I’m curious what impact will be occuring when the trains run through. Currently the line backs to the intersection but the turn lane helps keep 301 flowing.

  3. I came to town yesterday and in about 15 minutes i seen a cop almost lose his mind because a dump truck came down 301 working with the construction going on with the roundabout, stopped & blocked the traffic on church st in front of the church. The cop was yelling at everyone he thought should move. Then a train came through and shut down the intersection with traffic, and here came a Purdue truck that almost took out the street sign and light pole turning right onto 301 from w. church st. He only hit them and shook the light pole so it swayed back and forth a bit. It was very eventful.
