Driver Injured After Car Strikes Dollar General

JOHNSTON COUNTY — An elderly driver accidentally crashed into the side of a Dollar General store Friday morning after reportedly pressing the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to park.
The accident happened around 11:15 a.m. at the Dollar General located at the intersection of Keen Road and U.S. 701 near Four Oaks.

The woman was pulling into a parking space when her vehicle suddenly accelerated, jumped the curb and slammed into the side of the building.
The 80 year-old driver suffered minor injuries and was treated by Johnston County EMS.

The impact damaged the exterior wall of the building, prompting Johnston County Building Inspections to respond and evaluate the structural integrity of the store. Four Oaks Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

The vehicle accelerated….. All by itself?
Another incident where an elderly driver hits the accelerator instead of the brake. SMH 🙄. Do you remember the elderly lady who did that same thing at Smithfield Middle School years ago? Children were hurt, one boy died. After a certain age, elderly people should have to retake the driver’s license test, the eye test, and most importantly, the driving test. It’s a known fact that elderly people have shorter response time than younger people. Their eyesight declines as they age; therefore, they need to retake the eye exam at the DMV when they renew their license. This has been something that has really bothered me for a long time. My mama willingly gave up her driver’s license after backing into my dad’s truck and my brother in law’s truck and after she was in an automobile accident that left the other driver dead. I know it’s hard on the elderly losing their independence, but at least there would be fewer accidents and fewer deaths. Something really needs to be done about this.
It can happen to anyone at anytime and I am so glad my husband grandma and my baby is ok after going threw this
Self Driving cars are the answer
Well, here we go again somebody opening their mouth about something they know nothing about. I’m 80 years old and drive an 18 wheeler every day. I was traveling on Interstate 40 one morning and a YOUNG lady passed me running well over the speed limit, driving with her knees, on the cell phone with one and putting on makeup with other hand and looking in the rear view mirror. Now tell me who needs educating the most; an 80 year old who accidently hit the gas instead of the brake or an young woman who apparently don’t know anything about safe driving.
There’s a reason experienced drivers pay less for insurance.
