FOUR OAKS – A 30 year-old man was killed after being struck by a tractor trailer on Interstate 95, just south of Four Oaks. The victim had been involved in a single vehicle crash just minutes earlier.

Ryan Nicholas Christie of Locust Grove, Virginia was pronounced dead at the scene following the 1:04am Tuesday, July 4th accident.

According to the State Highway Patrol, Christie was involved in a single vehicle wreck on Hummingbird Road, adjacent to I-95. His Ford Mustang ran off the roadway in a curve and crashed into a tree line.

Instead of summoning assistance from one of several nearby homes, for unknown reasons, Christie walked across the southbound lanes of I-95 and then into the northbound lanes where he was struck by a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer driver stopped and was cooperative with the investigation. The accident temporarily closed the right northbound lane.

While the I-95 accident was being investigated, another collision occurred. A vehicle attempting to merge into the left northbound lane collided with a tanker truck. The vehicle then struck the bumper of a Four Oaks fire engine. No injuries were reported in that crash, and all the vehicles involved were able to drive away.

  1. It sure seems that way , huh …. Way to many things happening for no good reason

  2. Who writes this stuff? No mile marker or any other indication of where this happened. Is Four Oaks even in Virginia, where the victim is from and where this landed for me to read?

    • Four Oaks is in Johnston County, North Carolina. It’s roughly 100 miles south of Emporia, Virginia (which is near the NC/VA border), and almost 250 miles south of the town the victim is from.

This site is dedicated to news around the Johnston County area, so most readers would know where the places are as they’re described in the article. It’s around mile marker 84.

    • What would make someone here think F/O is in Virginia?? Anyway, this is a sad story, and I also am glad that no Firefighters or LEOs were injured in the 2nd crash.

  3. The highway, location, and the mile marker are irrelevant. What a sad last 10 minutes of a life. How reckless can you be with your own life? I’m glad that nobody else got hurt because someone else was being stupid.
