Driver Killed After Dump Truck Overturns

ARCHER LODGE, N.C. — One person was killed Wednesday morning after a dump truck crashed in the 8800 block of Covered Bridge Road.

The single-vehicle accident occurred around 9 a.m. when the truck traveled off the roadway and overturned. The impact was severe enough to separate the dump body from the truck, which came to rest on top of the chassis.

The driver, who was the only occupant, died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.
