Drivers Urged To Use Caution As Smithfield Streets Undergo Resurfacing
SMITHFIELD, N.C. — The Town of Smithfield will launch a multi-week street resurfacing project the week of March 16, with work taking place across several neighborhoods in phases over the coming weeks.
Residents and motorists can expect temporary lane closures, equipment in the roadway, and occasional parking restrictions as crews move from street to street, town officials said.
The planned schedule, weather permitting, includes:
- Week of March 16: East Underwood Street and East Carolina Street
- Weeks 2–3: South Vermont Street, South First Street, West Sanders Street, Wellons Street
- Weeks 4–5: Blount Street, Midway Street, Third Avenue, West Street
- Week 6: Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive
- Week 7: South Fifth Street, East Lee Street / Blount Street
- Week 8: South Fourth Street
- Week 9: North Fourth Street, North Fifth Street
- Weeks 10–11: North Roderick Street, Milton Street, North Rodgers Street, Afton Street
Drivers are encouraged to slow down and exercise caution around work zones.
Town officials thanked the community for its patience while the improvements are completed.
