Drug Investigation Leads To Arrest

SELMA – A 56 year-old Selma man is facing felony charges following an investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office narcotics division.

Clarence Hopkins of 100 Graham Street, Selma was arrested December 20 for possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Agents reportedly conducted surveillance on a room at the Knights Inn at 100 Graham Street, followed by a search of Hopkins, which resulted in the seizure of the narcotics.

Hopkins is also facing charges stemming from a September 8, 2023 chase involving Johnston County deputies that began on N. Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield.

  1. The police could probably kick in every door at that place and find a multitude of illegal drugs in every room. Seems like a wrecking ball and a few bulldozers would rid Selma’s residents of that blight on a once great town. Did Selma not learn its lesson when the Luxury Inn was there?
