Ex-Boyfriend Charged With Kidnapping 2 Children, Leading Officers On Chase

BENSON – A man who reportedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend’s two children from Lumberton was apprehended following a two county chase.

It started Thursday afternoon when Shiferaw Negash Lemons of High Point allegedly forcibly removed his girlfriend from a car in a Lumberton motel parking lot then sped away with her two children, ages 1 and 4, in the vehicle.

Johnston County deputies, who had been on alert for the vehicle, spotted Lemons near the I-95 / I-40 intersection outside of Benson and attempted a traffic stop. He failed to pull over. A chase ensued along Interstate 40 through Johnston and Wake County before Lemons was involved in a traffic accident.

The two children were not harmed.

The 24 year-old suspect faces multiple charges from Lumberton Police and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office including two counts of first-degree kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, assault on a female, injury to property, communicating threats, fleeing to elude arrest, speeding, reckless driving, driving without a license, child restraint violation, unsafe lane change, improper passing, and misdemeanor child abuse.

  1. Great Job Johnston County Sheriff’s Office in spotting and getting this animal into custody and off the streets. Send him to jail to rot! Thank God the two children were not harmed. Lemons will be well taken care of in jail when they find out about the kids and I won’t feel bad for him at all.

    • I’m glad they got this guy. But as far as them getting him in jail I think you’re wrong about that. If you would have molested the kids or something like that then yea. But kid napping his own kids isn’t something bad to wear they will get him Also the police knew kids where involved because of the call that was sent in. So why would they not call the chase of at high speeds and put the kids in danger. The chopper should have been called in so they could keep a eye on the car

      • They were not his kids, they were her kids, and he was just a boyfriend that went off his rocker. So, I stand behind what I say and feel in my first post and besides, weather they were his kids or not, he put them in extreme harm and again I say, thank God the kids were not injured.
