Thieves will steal anything, just ask a Johnston County farmer.
The 74 year-old grower reported he had 100 bales of hay stored at the rear of some farmland he was leasing on Powhatan Road in Wilson’s Mills last week.
Between Wednesday and Saturday someone went to the field and removed 75 of the 100 bales. The stolen bales were valued at $3,000.
A neighbor reported seeing a suspicious yellow truck in the field about the time the theft occurred.
According to the agricultural officials we spoke with, each bale likely weighed between 700 and 1,000 pounds each. The hay could have been stolen to resale to cattle producers, or for horses, sheep or goats.
Anyone with any information about the missing 75 bales of hay is asked to contact the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office at 919-989-5000.
