Fire Destroys Eastern Johnston County Home

KENLY – A late-night fire destroyed an eastern Johnston County home. The blaze was reported, around 9:30pm Wednesday, at 25 Old Pebble Lane off Sunshine Road.

Kenly, Nahunta, Pine Level, and Princeton Fire personnel responded to the scene along with Johnston County EMS. Firefighters arrived to find a working fire inside the doublewide home. It took about an hour to control.

Deputy Fire Marshal Jordan Piper said the fire started on the stove in the kitchen.

One person in the home was treated by EMS for smoke inhalation. Two firefighters were treated for heat-related illnesses. One was treated at the scene and the other was treated and released at the hospital.

One family pet perished in the fire.

A total of 54 volunteer firefighters from the four departments responded.

Deputy Fire Marshal Piper said it is important to have working smoke alarms in your home, test them each month, and change the batteries every six months.
