Firefighters Rescue Dog From Locked Car

CLAYTON – Clayton firefighters rescued a dog inside a locked car. The dog’s owner has now been cited by Clayton Police.

At approximately 2:37pm Sunday, Clayton Police was dispatched to the Walmart, located at 805 Town Centre Blvd, for a report of a dog locked in a 2019 Toyota Corolla in the parking lot.

The 911 call was made by a citizen who observed the dog, which appeared to be overheated, inside the vehicle with the two front windows barely cracked open.

As officers arrived at the scene, Clayton Fire was in the process of unlocking the vehicle. After unlocking the car, firemen were able to remove the 7 month-old pit bull puppy and give it water due to the heat. The dog did not require further medical treatment.

Police Chief Greg Tart said the dog’s owner, William Coreon Bumpers, 26, of Clayton was located inside Walmart and charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
