Smithfield Police are investigating break-ins at two flea markets discovered a short time apart Friday morning.
Around 2:30am Friday, police discovered an attempted break-in at Brightleaf Flea Market on South Brightleaf Boulevard. It marked the third break-in at the same business within a month. Police said the suspect attempted to gain entry into the building Friday morning but was not successful. In the previous two attempts, the suspect was able to gain entry and steal items from vendors.
Around 9:00am Friday, a break-in was discovered at Harper’s Flea Market also located on South Brightleaf Boulevard. Police Captain R. Sheppard said six Nintendo gaming systems were taken.
Captain Sheppard said the break-ins could be connected.
