SMITHFIELD — On Sunday, March 3rd, FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) Team 6004 f(x) Robotics competed at the Chapel Hill High School District Competition. At the event, the team won the Imagery Award, which is given to the team with the most impressive branding and theming. This marks an incredible achievement for f(x) Robotics, as this is the fifth year in a row they have been awarded this prestigious honor.

The team’s 2024 season robot, S.O.N.G.

f(x) Robotics donned their black shirts with a striking orange fox in the middle, with embroidered labcoats on top as they competed with their 2024 FRC season robot entitled S.O.N.G., which stands for Speedy and Optimal Note Gatherer. This name refers to the goal of this season’s game, which is to collect orange rings called “Notes” to launch into goals called “Speakers” as fast as possible. S.O.N.G. was decorated with dozens of orange 3D-printed parts in their team colors, including motor covers in the style of their team logo. It was also decorated with a fluffy fox tail, which the team has had on every robot they’ve made for the past 6 years.

Another integral part of the team’s imagery is Professor Fox, the team mascot. Wearing his lab coat, he loves walking around the tournament saying hello to everyone! All these parts come together to make a strong brand and give f(x) Robotics its unique image, one worthy of this amazing award.

This competition wasn’t just about imagery, however. f(x) Robotics’ aforementioned robot S.O.N.G. performed amazingly, ending the competition in the 3rd placing alliance. S.O.N.G. was one of the fastest robots on the field with its swerve drive train and quick intake mechanism for the notes, zooming it into a strong alliance with FRC teams 2059 The Hitchhikers and 5190 Falcon Fury.

The team will compete again on March 23rd at Heritage High School to solidify their chances of competing at the state championship the next week.
