Goldsboro Bridge Closed For Repairs Starting Sept. 8

GOLDSBORO, N.C. – The Harris Street bridge, located between S. Andrews Avenue and S. Madison Avenue, will close for repairs on Sept. 8 and remain closed for three to four weeks while the work is completed. The bridge will be closed to all traffic during this time.

Every two years, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) performs bridge inspections for the City of Goldsboro as part of the federal and state bridge inspection program. During the most recent inspection of the Harris Street bridge, NCDOT identified four defects that require immediate repair.

On Aug. 17, Council approved a resolution to award a $165,500 contract to S&C Construction, LLC, for the Harris Street project. S&C Construction, one of the largest DOT bridge repair companies in eastern North Carolina, will be able to replace some of the beams and extend the life of the bridge. Powell Bill funds will be used to fund this contract.
