Good Samaritan Injured After Being Struck By Semi At Accident Scene

SELMA — A man who stopped to help others following a traffic accident Saturday afternoon was seriously injured when he was struck by a passing tractor-trailer.

The accident happened around 12:37 p.m. on U.S. 70 near the Interstate 95 interchange in Selma.

According to the Selma Police Department, a 63-year-old Princeton resident came upon a crash moments after it occurred and immediately stopped to assist. Wearing a reflective safety vest, the man began directing traffic to help prevent further accidents while waiting for police to arrive.

As Selma police officers reached the scene, the man moved too close to the roadway and was struck by the rear portion of a tractor-trailer traveling through the area. Authorities said he was not run over by the vehicle.

Johnston County EMS transported the man to WakeMed with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the tractor-trailer remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Police said no charges were filed.
