Governor Offers Reward In Unsolved Murder

Governor Pat McCrory announced Thursday that the State is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Richard O’Neal Longmire of Thorne Road, Selma.

On May 31st, 2015, Longmire, 39, was shot and killed by an unknown assailant or assailants during the late evening hours at a residence on West Harnett Street in Benson.  According to the investigation by Benson Police, Longmire had been involved in an altercation at that residence, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Days after the fatal shooting two brothers from Benson were charged with the murder but were later released from custody after the charges against them were dropped.
