The drivers of two vehicles traveling on Interstate 40 near Benson exchanged gunfire during a weekend road rage incident.

WTSB News and has learned the shooting occurred around 9:40am Saturday in the eastbound lanes of I-40 as the drivers approached I-95.

Witnesses reported that the operator of a Chevy Corvette was traveling approximately 70 mph in the left lane of I-40 and refused to allow a red truck to pass. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said they recovered handguns and bullets from both drivers.

Sheriff’s detectives are still investigating the incident.
