SMITHFIELD – A Johnston County trooper was sitting in his patrol car when it was struck by an SUV on I-95 near Brodgen Road in Smithfield overnight.
Trooper D.C. Pridgen had responded to an accident on the interstate and was in the process of investigating the collision. While sitting inside his marked patrol car with the blue lights activated, a white SUV struck Trooper Pridgen’s marked cruiser. The patrol car sustained damage on the left side. Three people in the SUV were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The state trooper was not injured.
