I-40 Crash Seriously Injures Driver

BENSON – A motorist was seriously injured in a single vehicle traffic accident on Interstate 40 in Johnston County. The State Highway Patrol said the collision occurred Monday at 2:17pm near the 319 mile marker in the McGee’s Crossroads community.

Andrew Imlay, 64, of Durham was traveling westbound on I-40 operating a 2004 Nissan pickup when the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right and collided with a tree. Imlay was pinned in the wreckage and had to be extricated by first responders.

Troopers estimated Imlay was originally traveling at 70 mph in a 70 mph zone when he lost control. The Nissan was traveling at an estimated speed of 50 mph when it collided with the tree.

Imlay was transported to WakeMed for treatment. He was cited for failure to maintain lane control.

  1. For a few days not, we have not been able to view the mugshots. It appears you have a new platform, and it is not working.

    • I was surprised to see the new format this morning. I think I missed checking it yesterday. I don’t like that it doesn’t show the height and weight anymore. I did always wonder how accurate that was though.
