Improvements Coming For Old Stage Road
GARNER, N.C. – Multiple improvements are in store for a local road thanks to an almost $7 million contract recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Old Stage Road will be resurfaced and widened from two to four lanes from just south of the Triangle Expressway to Rock Service Station Road. Along this stretch, Fred Smith Co. of Raleigh will also install new traffic signals, construct raised medians and turnaround points and reconfigure the intersection of Old Stage and Rock Service Station roads.
Crews are expected to begin work on May 18 and reach substantial completion by fall 2027.

Why?
The impact on local traffic will be horrendous. My Rolling Meadows subdivision will be most impacted; remaining natural areas will be destroyed, more loss of natural habitat. My quality of life in that subdivision has already greatly suffered from 540. Stop the insanity of widening an absurdity short section of Old Stage Road.
Why didn’t the plan include 4 lanes all the way to Ten Ten. Trying to get in and out of Vance Elementary at drop off and pick up can back up traffic to the 540 interchange. Now that there are curbs instead of a shoulder southbound in front of the school, the traffic is even worse.
Lol, funny watching all these boomers crying. Don’t live in a heavily populated area if you don’t like traffic.
Be kind.
This was supposed to start back in 2018 but COVID pushed out the schedule. However, if you think traffic is bad now at Old Stage Road and Highway 401, just wait until all that construction begins that will undoubtedly take about two years to complete. Then comes the new sidewalks up and down Highway 401 from Mechanical Blvd to Farm Rod. Joy!
