Johnston Community College Sets New Enrollment Record
SMITHFIELD – Johnston Community College continues its upward enrollment trend, opening the fall semester with the largest curriculum student population in the College’s history.

On the first day of spring semester classes, JCC welcomed 5,892 degree-seeking students—a 12 percent increase over the prior spring semester. This is the seventh straight semester of double-digit percentage increases in enrollment for JCC.
Enrollment gains are also evident in JCC’s partnerships with local high schools. This spring, 2,017 high school students enrolled in college courses through the dual enrollment program. The success in the Career & College Promise program shows JCC’s growing role in supporting early college access and workforce preparation.
Last year, the College also served 8,155 non-credit students, strengthening JCC’s role as a key driver of economic mobility across the region.
“We are thrilled to welcome the largest class of new and returning students JCC has ever seen,” said President Dr. Vern L. Lindquist. “These numbers reflect the trust our community places in us, the value of our programs, and the determination of students who are shaping their futures right here in Johnston County.”
Behind the enrollment gains is a coordinated effort to meet students where they are and support them throughout their academic journey. JCC has expanded its outreach and digital presence while investing in tools that simplify the student experience from enrollment through graduation. Once enrolled, students are supported by a growing network of academic, financial, and personal support services.
In addition, the continued success of the Johnston County Commissioners’ Promise program has removed financial barriers for recent Johnston County high school graduates, making a college education more accessible to local students.
