A rural crossroads in northern Johnston County will be converted into a roundabout.
The NC Department of Transportation announced on Monday they will build the roundabout at the intersection of Highway 39 and Highway 42, which now has an all-way stop configuration. Roundabouts help improve safety and traffic flow.
Fred Smith Company recently received a $2.3 million award for the project. Construction will begin as early as April 2nd. The current intersection will remain open until the project is completed by the end of this year.
