Johnston County Man Faces Felony Charges In RV Fraud Case

CLAYTON, N.C. — A Clayton-area mechanic has been charged after Johnston County authorities said he accepted thousands of dollars to repair a customer’s motor home, then allegedly sold the vehicle without the owner’s knowledge.
Justin Dale Sampson, 38, of Clark Pond Road, was arrested July 9 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
Sampson is charged with felony conversion and felony obtaining property by false pretense.
According to investigators, the case began in June 2021 when the owner of a 2005 motor home paid Sampson approximately $6,473 to complete repairs on the RV.
Nearly five years later, in May 2026, the owner reportedly attempted to locate the motor home but was unable to find it.
Detectives allege Sampson had sold the RV to an unsuspecting out-of-state buyer without the owner’s authorization.
The motor home has since been recovered, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the criminal investigation remains ongoing.
Following his arrest, Sampson was released from the Johnston County Detention Center after posting a $10,000 secured bond.
