Free Backpacks, Haircuts And More Offered At Annual Clayton Event
CLAYTON, N.C. — Students and families are invited to a free community back-to-school event that will provide backpacks, haircuts, hair braiding, food and other resources to help children prepare for the upcoming school year.
The Johnston County Community Back to School Youth Explosion Committee will host its 12th Annual Backpack Giveaway on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Clayton High School, 600 S. Fayetteville Street.

The committee is made up of civic organizations, nonprofit groups, local businesses and faith-based organizations from Johnston County and surrounding communities.
Students attending the event can receive free backpacks while supplies last, along with free haircuts and hair braiding on a first-come, first-served basis. Food will also be available, and a variety of community vendors will be on hand.
Organizers ask families to enter the event using the Fayetteville Street entrance to Clayton High School. Children must be present to receive a backpack, and organizers request that hair be washed and detangled before arriving for haircuts or braiding services.
