Local Veterans Visit Durham VA

Members from the Johnston County Marine Corps League Carry-On Detachment 1236 host a quarterly bingo game on April 30th for the residents at the Durham Veterans Affairs Hospital. The Marines shared camaraderie, thanked them for their service, give them prayer shawls made by local ladies church group, and let them know that they are not forgotten.

“Tonight, we visited with 47 Warriors who gave to this Nation so that we can enjoy the American dream,” Past Commandant Devell “Bull” Durham Jr. said.

Mr. Robert Mackey (pictured front) served from 1965-1985 in the Army Signal Corps. The United States Army Signal Corps (USASC) is a division of the Department of the Army that creates and manages communications and information systems for the command and control of combined arms forces. Robert’s wife Renee also served from 1971-1996. Renee also has three brothers that served in the United States Marine Corps.
