Motorists Advised Of Road Closures For 3 Little Pigs Triathlon
SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Motorists traveling near the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center on Saturday, June 20, should expect road closures and traffic restrictions as hundreds of athletes participate in the 14th annual Chick-fil-A 3 Little Pigs Triathlon.
The event will be held at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center, located at 600 Durwood Stephenson Parkway.
Traffic impacts are expected between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. while participants complete the cycling portion of the race.
During the event:
- Durwood Stephenson Parkway will be closed between Kellie Drive and Buffalo Road.
- Eastbound traffic on Durwood Stephenson Parkway will only be permitted to turn right onto Buffalo Road.
- Northbound traffic traveling on Buffalo Road from Smithfield will only be permitted to turn left onto Durwood Stephenson Parkway. Drivers wishing to continue north on Buffalo Road will have controlled access through the area.
- Access to Kellie Drive from Buffalo Road will be restricted to bicycles participating in the event.
The Smithfield Police Department will have officers stationed throughout the course to direct traffic and assist motorists. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use alternate routes when possible, and exercise caution in areas where athletes may be present.
Officials expect normal traffic patterns to resume shortly after the event concludes at approximately 10:30 a.m.
