Non-Tax Paid Liquor Seized From DWI Suspect

A 69 year-old man is accused of having non-tax paid liquor in his possession.  Around 12:46am Sunday, Smithfield Police stopped a 2017 Nissan for a traffic violation on W. Market Street near Highway 210.

The driver, Mack Iver Baldwin of Patterson, NJ was allegedly impaired.  Police said they seized a gallon container of non-tax paid liquor from Baldwin.

Baldwin registered 0.16 on the Breathalyzer, double the legal limit of 0.08 in North Carolina.  He was charged with driving while impaired, having an open container of alcohol, and possession of non-tax paid liquor.

A magistrate set his bond at $10,000.
