Carolina (Kelly) Johnson, of Micro, NC, passed away at the age of 72, on April 29, 2025, to be reunited with her loved ones in heaven.
Ms. Johnson was born in Dunlow, West Virginia, on August 7, 1952, to Burgess Hawes and Dora Mildred (Johnson) Kelly, the third of six children, including Wayne Lee (Thelma) Kelly, Muriel Jean Kelly, William Allen (Evelyn Fykes) Kelly, Wally B.H. (Darlene) Kelly, and Brenda Lou (Tom) Beck.
She was the dedicated mother of three children: Joseph David (Crystal Michelle) Runyon, Rebecca Sue (Brad Jenkins) Prince, and James Walter (Jennifer Mae) Runyon. She had ten grandchildren: Shaina Nicole Prince, Angel Dawn Bridgers, Katelyn Rose Prince, James Walter Runyon II, Lyvia Elisabeth Prince, Ian Seth Runyon, Bekah Lynn (Zachary) Shearin, Chloe Alliyah Runyon, Megan Grace Prince, and Aaron Joseph Runyon. In addition, she had two great-grandchildren, Abel Riot Prince and Delilah Sunshine Prince. Carolina also had a large, beloved extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Following her childhood in West Virginia, Carolina was also a long-time resident of both Barberton and Bidwell, OH, and spent a decade between Austin and Oakwood, TX.
Ms. Johnson was quite knowledgeable of her family history and enjoyed reciting the names and stories of her ancestors to anyone who would listen.
She was a creative soul with an affinity for drawing, singing, and writing. Even in her older years, Carolina retained her childlike love for these simple pleasures, inspiring those of the next generation to do the same. She was a lifelong writer of letters to her family members who were far away.
She was college-educated, having attended the University of Akron. During her time in Barberton, she was active in her community, spending time at political rallies and courageously fighting for the less fortunate.
Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by her grandparents, Anthony Wayne and Virginia Ann (Clevenger) Johnson, Henry Hawes and Callie (Harmon) Kelly. Her mother, her father, and her sister, Muriel Jean.
She was a devout Christian, having served the Lord her entire life. Her love for faith in Jesus was instrumental in carrying her through life’s many troubles.
The family will hold a memorial service for Carolina in West Virginia at a later date and time.
