Clarence Pemberton Hawkins

    Known by family and friends as “Pem”, Clarence Pemberton Hawkins left his earthly life on January 23, 2022, following a valiant battle against heart failure and Parkinson’s Disease. He was a resident of Pine Level, NC. Pem was born on October 19, 1941 in Asheboro, NC to Leonora Byrd Hawkins and Clarence Cleveland Hawkins.

    As a youngster he lived in El Paso, TX, Hawaii, and New Jersey, as well as Pine Level, NC. He was a graduate of Pine Level High School and later NC State University with a degree in accounting. His professional career included Omark Industries, Stackpole Components Co., Standard Products, Acme United and Hamilton Beach, as an accountant/controller.

    He was married to Beverly Gower Hawkins from August 6, 1972 until his passing. Preceded in death by both his parents, he is survived by his wife and his daughter, Cathleen and grandson, Cooper. Pem was always active in civic and church life. He was a member of Zebulon, NC and Farmville, VA Jaycees and was known for his public speaking. After moving back to Johnston County, NC he served as Sunday School class president, as well as Centenary United Methodist Men President.

    Pem was an avid sports fan who pulled always for the NCSU Wolfpack basketball and football teams. He also enjoyed collecting Ricker-Barlett statues and NCSU memorabilia.

    Pem was a devoted father, husband and grandfather who also treasured his friendship with many people. Loved and respected by many, his smile, joking and love for family and friends will be missed.
