David Lee Meadows

    David Lee Meadows, age 83, died Sunday morning, December 19, 2021, in the UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield, NC. Born August 22, 1938, in Glen Morgan, Raleigh County, WV, he was a son of the late, John and Mary Fritz Meadows, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Meadows and a sister, Janet Cunningham.

    David loved animals of all types, especially his indoor cats, Sassy, Tux and his lap buddy, Possum. He was known in the neighborhood for feeding the feral cats and catching them to have them spayed or neutered as needed. He enjoyed watching UNC Basketball, fishing, watching NASCAR, where he pulled for #18 Kyle Busch and playing cards, especially when it was the girls against the boys.

    David was a member of the Believers Baptist Church near Wilson’s Mills and was a longtime President of his CWA Chapter. He was a US Army veteran and was a retired Switching Electronic Technician with Bell Telephone (later AT&T).

    The family will receive friends Thursday, December 23, 2021, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. in the Believers Baptist Church, 100 Southerland Road, Clayton, NC, where he has been a member for 6 years, with the Pastor Matthew Johnson.

    Surviving are his wife, Andrea Meadows; son, Michael D. Meadows and wife Melanie of Raleigh; daughters, Melissa M. Worrell, Lucinda M. “Cindy” Goff and Kathryn M. Pope and husband David and their mother, Betty Meadows, all of Goldsboro; sisters, Carol Meadows and Jean M. Carper and husband Roy all of Grandview, WV; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, mother-in-law, Gertrude Carter of Beaufort, brother-in-law, Bryant Carter and wife Bonnie of Raleigh and special nephew, Stephen Carter of Havelock.

    Flowers are acceptable, or memorials may be made to Believers Baptist Church Military Bible Sticks, a passion of Dave’s, P. O. Box 1133, Clayton, NC 27528.
