Doris Rebecca Jones Crocker, age 92, of Swansboro, NC and formerly of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 1, 2025. It was her daughter Sue’s 70th birthday.
She was the former Mrs. Roy Barnes Crocker, in which they shared 57 years of marriage, until his death on her 75th birthday, September 2, 2007. Together they raised 2 children, a son, Donald Roy Crocker and a daughter, Rebecca Sue Crocker.
Doris was the 2nd of 7 children born to Eula Lee Bizzell Jones and Ira Bernice Jones, Sr. on a farm outside of Smithfield, NC and had a nickname of “Spar” because she was tall and had long legs.
Doris was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Raleigh, NC and traveled to Pittsburgh, PA often to headquarters for various meetings, being she was one of the youngest employees of Westinghouse. While employed at Westinghouse, she set up the 1st automatic direct deposit in Raleigh, NC for a large corporation that would eventually become the largest ever at that time.
Along with her career and marriage to Roy, they raised their son in Boy Scouts and daughter in Brownies. She also found the time to enjoy making pottery, being a self-taught artist, square dancing with Roy, painting, whether on canvas, inside the house or the outside and winning numerous bowling championships with the company league.
After her retirement in December 1992, she and Roy loved to travel to Las Vegas every chance they got. Roy played penny slots and she won enough money to make a return trip to Vegas soon after.
She traveled 47 states and flew to Hawaii many times, and travelled to 7 other countries. She was an avid angler after her retirement and was very proud of her citation for a Bull Dolphin that she had caught while out deep-sea fishing with her son Don. She loved to fish and tell the story of her catching so many fish up until her final days.
She loved the outdoors and watching Chris cut grass and plant flowers and other plants, and telling him where and how. Her biggest enjoyment of all was her family and extended family that she loved like her own children.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Barnes Crocker; granddaughter, Rhonda Crocker Howell; 2 brothers and 1 sister.
She will be greatly missed by the apple of her eye and shadow, her grandson, Christopher Leon Baker.
Doris is survived by her son, Donald Roy Crocker, and wife Ginger of Spring Hope; daughter, Rebecca Sue Crocker of Swansboro. She also leaves behind to cherish her memories 2 grandsons, Christopher Leon Baker of Swansboro and Ryan Barnes Crocker and wife Jennifer; 3 great grandchildren, Rylee Crocker, Weston Crocker, and Luke Howell.
