Frederick “Teeny” Herring

    Birth Date: 01/14/1942
    Deceased Date: 03/13/2022

James Frederick “Teeny” Herring, age 80, died peacefully at his home following a terminal illness and fall. Born January 14, 1942 in Johnston County to the late Marvin and Gaynelle Batten Herring, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Bobby Ray Herring.

He graduated from Micro High School where he enjoyed playing sports and being “Teeny”, a name he received as a child. After graduation, he followed in his father’s footsteps and became an agricultural farmer, later transitioning to growing produce. Locally he was known as the “Collard Man” and he enjoyed seeing people come by and enjoy his produce. His passion, along with farming, was fox and rabbit hunting and entering field trials with his hunting dogs. He was a founding member of the Johnston County Houndsman’s Club, where he hosted all of the meetings at his farm. He was a member of the Micro First Baptist Church. Teeny was a man of few words and he had his ways. One was that he liked to stay home, but enjoyed people coming by his house, where taught many a life’s lesson.
